Once the Roman capital
of Northern England, York has some amasing history including the 11th Century
York Minster, home to half of all the medieval stained glass windows in Europe.
Some of the other attraction include the York Castle Museum which is housed in
the city`s old prison buildings, the museum also gives intriguing glimpses of
the prison life of 200 years ago. The Yorkshire museum which lies in the shadow
of St Mary's Abbey, once the north's wealthiest abbey, and near a Roman fortress
wall, The Jorvik Viking Centre which shows the history of the Viking in England
and shows a huge archaeological dig that has been perfectly preserved. York also
has a National Railway Museum, York Dungon and an impressive Art Gallery.
